A SUSSEX HOUSE

This house has evolved from an existing single storey I960's flat roofed bungalow, providing a 450 sq m six bedroom property. The elevated site looks South over its own well established gardens to the Downs beyond.

The design makes full use of this main aspect to the South. Shading is incorporated in the form of a roof level brise soleil; it is intended that this will also act as a pergola for planting which in turn will provide further shading. Window forms frame the view from inside with a first floor balcony opening off the atrium of the main living space. The projecting bedroom windows provide window seats internally.

The North elevation provides a contrast, with a formal design incorporating minimal areas of glazing. The simple palette of facing materials comprises thin coat render and vertical cedar boarding. Windows are Accoya framed.
